Peptides: Our Perspective at CrossFit Winter Park
Recovery. Body Composition. Metabolic Health.
Why We Believe the Fundamentals Always Come First.

At CrossFit Winter Park, we're often asked about peptides.
-Are they worth it?
-Are they safe?
-Do they work?
And perhaps the biggest question of all:
-"Are you guys anti-GLP?"
The short answer is no.
The longer answer is that, like most tools in health and fitness, the value of peptides depends entirely on how and why they're being used.
First, What Are Peptides?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as signaling molecules in the body. They help regulate everything from healing and recovery to metabolism, appetite, hormone production, and tissue repair. We naturally make peptides within our bodies.
Not all peptides do the same thing, which is why we think it's helpful to separate them into different categories.
The Recovery, Repair, and Longevity Bucket
When most people hear the word "peptide," they're often thinking about compounds such as:
- BPC-157
- TB-500
- MOTS-c
- GHK-Cu
- Sermorelin
- Other recovery and longevity-focused therapies
These peptides are commonly used to support:
- Soft tissue recovery
- Joint and connective tissue health
- Injury rehabilitation
- Reduced inflammation
- Cellular health and longevity
- Recovery from high training loads
For active adults and athletes, this category is often the most interesting because the goal isn't necessarily about weight loss. It's about staying healthy enough to keep training, recovering, and performing both in and out of the gym.
The Metabolic Health Bucket: GLPs
Here's where things can get more controversial, but it doesn't need to be that way.
Many people don't realize that GLP-based therapies are also peptide therapies. Today, most people are familiar with GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP medications, but newer generations of GLP therapies continue to emerge. These medications are designed to influence appetite regulation, satiety, digestion, blood sugar control, and overall metabolic health.
These therapies have helped many people achieve life-changing improvements in weight management and metabolic health.
So no, we are not anti-GLP....
But we do think there are important conversations that should be had before anyone starts on a GLP. Unfortunately there are many providers and "clinics" that just want to sell you on weight loss and they don't paint the whole picture.
Where We Think People Get It Wrong
One of the biggest mistakes is treating a GLP as a replacement for healthy habits.
At CrossFit Winter Park, we believe GLPs work best when they support a foundation that already includes:
- Consistent strength training
- Adequate protein intake
- Daily movement
- Quality sleep
- Sustainable nutrition habits
-A medication can help regulate your appetite.
-It cannot build muscle for you.
-It cannot teach you healthy habits.
-And, it cannot protect your lean mass if you're not prioritizing resistance training and proper nutrition.
That's why we encourage anyone considering a GLP, or anyone already taking one, to focus on body composition, not simply body weight.
The Goal Isn't Weight Loss.
The Goal Is Better Body Composition.
Losing weight isn't always the same thing as getting healthier.
What matters is:
- Maintaining or increasing muscle mass
- Reducing excess body fat
- Improving metabolic health
- Increasing strength and function
This is why we're such big believers in objective tracking.
At CrossFit Winter Park, we use InBody 380 body composition scans to help members understand what's actually changing from the inside out.
If you lost 20 pounds, but a significant portion of that was muscle, it was not a win. It was actually a huge step backwards in your overall health and longevity.
If you're preserving muscle while reducing body fat and getting stronger, that's a completely different story.
The scale only tells part of the story.
Our Philosophy
Better health does not happen in a pharmacy.
Health is built through training, nutrition, recovery, sleep, community, and consistency.
Peptides may be a useful tool for some people, but they should support those fundamentals, not replace them.
That's the lens through which we view every recovery protocol, supplement, medication, and intervention. The foundation always comes first.
If You're Already Using Peptides or Considering Them, We'd Love to Help
Another misconception is that you need to figure it all out on your own.
You don't.
Whether you're considering recovery peptides, currently using a GLP, or simply curious about how these therapies fit into an overall health and fitness plan, our coaching team wants to help you maximize the benefits while minimizing the risks.
That means conversations about:
- Strength training
- Nutrition
- Protein intake
- Recovery and sleep
- Body composition tracking
- Long-term sustainability
Because the goal isn't simply to lose weight.
The goal is to build a healthier, stronger body that can support the life you want to live for many years to come.
Why We Chose to Partner with EllieMD
As we explored the peptide and wellness landscape, we wanted to partner with a company that aligned with our philosophy of education, accountability, and long-term health.
With an EllieMD-CFWP account, clients work directly with licensed medical providers who evaluate their health history, goals, and needs before determining whether a prescription is appropriate. Prescriptions are fulfilled through licensed compounding pharmacies, including 503A pharmacies that provide patient-specific medications under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
In other words, this isn't about buying peptides from a random website and hoping for the best. It's about proper medical oversight, individualized care, and having experienced professionals involved in the decision-making process.
This approach aligns with how we coach: assess first, build a plan, track progress, and make adjustments along the way.
Working with us and EllieMD is especially valuable because it combines medical oversight with ongoing coaching and accountability.
EllieMD can help determine whether a peptide therapy is appropriate and provide the medical supervision. Our role at CrossFit Winter Park is to help ensure that the fundamentals are in place so you can get the best possible outcome and reach your goals.
That means helping you:
- Build and maintain strength through consistent training
- Prioritize proper nutrition and protein intake
- Track body composition with regular InBody 380 scans
- Monitor lean muscle mass while pursuing fat loss goals
- Create sustainable habits that support long-term health
Too often, people start a GLP or another peptide therapy and have no objective way to know whether they're improving their health or simply losing weight. By combining medical guidance from EllieMD with fitness coaching, nutrition support, and body composition tracking at CrossFit Winter Park, we can help you take a more complete approach that focuses not just on losing weight, but on becoming healthier, stronger, and more capable for the long term.
The Bottom Line
-Peptides aren't magic.
-They're not shortcuts.
-And they're not something everyone needs.
But for the right person, at the right time, under the right guidance, they can be a valuable tool.
Our philosophy remains unchanged:
Train hard. Eat well. Recover intentionally. Stay consistent.
Peptides may support the process, but they should never replace the fundamentals.
If you're curious about peptides, GLPs, recovery therapies, body composition, or whether any of these options might make sense for your goals, talk with one of us.
